Our Story
Taste evolves, flavor transforms, and years of experience find life in the spirit of the times.
The late 1700s...
The Taşköprülü Müftügiller family, who would later take the surname Erol with the enactment of the surname law, were selected as a special principality and accepted into the Ottoman Palace. They began working in various roles within the palace. The Taşköprülü family’s employment in sections like the helvahane (sweet kitchen), şekerhane (candy kitchen), and tatlıhane (dessert kitchen), where sweets were produced, gave them profound expertise in confectionery.
This experience emboldened Mehmet Efendi, a member of the Müftügiller family. With this courage, he embarked on an adventure that rivaled his palace experience. In 1807, he opened a confectionery shop in Eminönü. From then on, he would practice his craft in his own shop. However, this continued only until the aftermath of World War I, during the great fire in Istanbul, which forced many shop owners to close their doors and leave the city, never to return. Mehmet Efendi also lost his shop in the fire and had to return to his ancestral lands with his son and grandchildren. Among them, his adventurous and fearless grandson, Cafer Erol, left Istanbul with the determination that he would one day return.
Şekerci Cafer Erol continues to excel in offering a wide variety of products, including vibrant akide candies, dozens of types of Turkish delight, chocolates so tempting you’ll have trouble choosing, classic nut pastes, specialty marzipans, pastry and milk-based desserts, jams made from fresh fruits, and chocolates and candies designed for special occasions such as birthdays, baptisms, weddings, New Year’s, and holidays.
